Thurlow Raymond Branscum, 88, Onia entered into rest on July 15, 2007 in Mountain View.
He was born June 4, 1919 in Onia, Arkansas to Charley and Emmer (Gammill) Branscum.
He was a member of the Vine Avenue Missionary Baptist Church in Mountain View a husband, father and grandfather. He worked as farmer. He served in World War II where he was a #1 marksman. He was one of the 2,000 chosen to draw the Japanese Army's attention away so that General McArthur could go in behind the Japanese Army. He was already given his last rites, but two hours before he was to be deployed the Japanese surrendered.
He is survived by his daughter; Velma B. Woody and her husband Curtis O. Woody of Onia; six grandchildren, Jettia and her husband Lonnie Day, Curt Woody and his fiancé Lesa Wallis, Johnny and Keli Woody, Carrie Woody and her fiancé Sean Steiger; four great-grandchildren, Dixie Foley, Charli Branscum, Rebekah Day and Cheyenne Day.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Mamie, brother, Bunion Branscum, one son, Charles Lance Branscum and one grandson, Anthony Woody.
Graveside service at Pordue Cemetery, Onia at 10 a.m., July 17, 2007 with Brother Ronald Childress officiating.
Pallbearers are Sean Steiger, Ryan Steiger, Will Steiger, Travis Trammell, Neal Harness and Joey Day.
Honorary pallbearers are Dr. James Zini, Daniel Trammell, Ellis Trammell, R.H. Trammell, A.J. Trammell and Curtis Woody.
Roller Coffman Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
