LITTLE ROCK -- Robert R. Bennett, 74, of Little Rock died Tuesday, Aug. 19, at St. Vincent's Infirmary Medical Center.

Born at Minturn, he was a Navy veteran and a businessman who had farming interests in Lawrence County. He was a member of the Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Little Rock.

He was a descendant of French Creole settlers Pierre Le Mieux and Antoine Janis, who moved to Lawrence County in the 18th century.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Bennett of the home; two sons, Swannee Bennett and Sloan Bennett, both of Little Rock; a sister, Earnestine Chipman of Little Rock; two grandchildren, Michelle Mollette and Robert Stanton Bennett, both of Little Rock; three stepgrandchildren, Damon Duncan, Crystal Duncan and Nathan Duncan, all of Little Rock.

Funeral Mass is scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Walnut Ridge, with the Rev. John Marconi officiating. Burial will follow at Strangers Home Cemetery under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home of Hoxie.

Active pallbearers will include Robert Stanton Bennett, Larry Robert, Nathan Duncan, Dana Bennett, Tommy Chipman and Larry Combs.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
