Vernon Eugene Cox, 77, of Mt. Home died Wednesday, Sep 24, 2003, at his residence. A funeral will be 2PM Saturday at Norfork Church of Christ with Bro. Guy Hester officiating. Visitation will be from noon-9PM today at Roller Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6-8PM.
He was born Dec 27, 1925, at Mt. Home to George and Onnna Wadkins Cox. He was a carpenter. He married Hazel Parnell and they lived in the area their entire married life. Mr. Cox was World War II US Navy veteran and saw action at Iwo Jima, Guadacanal and Japan aboard the USS Putnam. He was a member of the Norfork Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Hazel; one son, Billy Ray (RaDonna) Cox of Mt. Home; one sister, Elsie M. Douglas of Mt. Home; two grandsons, Travis (Kristy) Cox of Mt. Home and Zak (Brandy) Cox of Moore, OK; one great granddaughter, Erica Cox; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both parents; four brothers; Tom, Bill, Loss and Leonard Cox; and five sisters, Annie Oels, Mary Climer, Ruby Roberts, Mazie Cox and Zelma Brown.
Pallbearers will be Travis Cox, Zak Cox, Dale Cox, Jack Hughes, Stan Bridgeman and Jim Windland. Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Porter, Louie Qualls, E.J. Weatherford, Dwayne Reeves and Robert Oelis.
The family would like to extend thanks to their Norfork Chruch of Christ family, Hospice of the Ozarks, Dale Cox and Kay Watts to name only a few.
Arrangements are by Roller funeral Home.
