ANOTHER AGED RESIDENT OF COUNTY DIED LAST WEEK

Funeral service for Isaac Mathews aged 82, who died Tuesday morning, Sept. 29th, 1936, at his home four and a half miles north of Hiwasse, this county, where he had lived for more than 40 years, were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the Church of the Nazarene at Hiwasse, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. James Hendrekson. Music was by a quartet from the church choir and a quartet from the Dug Hill community. The pall bearers were Martin Funk, Tom McMillan, Albert Browning, Hurley McComos, Dick Hickman and Coy Presley and burial was in the Mount Pleasant cemetery west of Hiwasse. The Burns Funeral Home of Bentonville was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Mr. Mathews was born April 12th, 1854, in McDonald County, Mo., only a few miles from his later Arkansas home. He had lived in the same neighborhood all his life. He was the son of Andrew and Phoebe Mathews, both natives of Illinois. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. His wife was the former Miss Sarah Elizabeth Starnes of that section. She died July 7th, 1935.

Mr. Mathews is survived by five sons, C.A., O.G., I.B. and J.P. Mathews, all of the Hiwasse community and W.M. Mathews of Kansas City; and by two daughters, Mrs. Laura Buxton of Pierce City, Mo. And Mrs. Virgie Holloway of Hiwasse. He is survived also by a sister, Mrs. Bell Cannon of near Hiwasse and by 22 grandchildren.
