Joseph E. "Joe" Rakes, 71, of Avoca, died Sunday, Feb. 21, at St. Mary's Hospital, Rogers. He was born Feb. 2, 1922, at Bentonville, to Edgar and Ruby Cora Stringer Rakes. He was a retired carpenter and a lifetime Benton County resident.

Survivors are his mother of Rogers; his wife, Mary Lou Asbury Rakes of the home; three sons; a daughter; two sisters; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside service is set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hart Cemetery, Bentonville. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today at Rollins Funeral Home, Rogers.

ROGERS -- Mary Lou Rakes, 80, of Rogers died June 13, 2004. She was born Nov. 6, 1923, in Whitewater, Wis., to Lucius Charles and Mary Margaret Magon Asbury. She retired from Daisy Manufacturing after 27 years of employment. Her interests included traveling, boating and fishing. She was a graduate of Bentonville High School. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Rakes.

Survivors include three sons; one daughter; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Rollins Funeral Home in Rogers. Burial will be in Hart Cemetery in Rogers.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons.

Memorials may be made to the Family Council at Innisfree Nursing Center, Rogers.
