LaVerne Kelley Collins, 94, of Hamburg, died Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at her residence. Mrs. Collins was a native of Ashley County and a life long resident of the Promise Land Community outside of Hamburg. She was a Registered Nurse and she worked at the old Crossett Hospital for many years. She was known as the Promise Land Nurse in her community. She was a member of the Promise Land Missionary Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Jesse D. Collins in 2002; her parents, Robert and Sarah Cunningham Kelley; a brother, Everett Kelley in 1995 and a sister, Mablee Kelley in 1945.
She is survived by two sons, Larry Collins and wife, Nancy, and Steve Collins and wife, Ann, all of Hamburg; three sisters, Ruth Griffin of Los Angeles, California, Naomi Croswell of Crossett and Amelia Kusturin of Vilas, North Carolina; 6 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are 10 a.m., Friday, May 1, 2015 at the Promise Land Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Michael Reese, Bro. Trey Emory and Bro. Kelly Clarke officiating. Burial will be in the Promise Land Cemetery. Pallbearers are Jimmy Lee Kelley, Buddy Kilcrease, Dewey “Scutter” Kilcrease, Billy Frank Kelley, Dennis Holland and Dale Lauhon. Memorials may be made to the Promise Land Missionary Baptist Church, 765 Ashley 70 Road, Hamburg, AR 71646.
