May 18, 1945 - January 12, 2020
Urban Wayne Wilson, 74, of West Monroe, LA, formerly of Junction City, AR, passed from this life on January 12, 2020, at St. Francis Hospital in Monroe, Louisiana.
Urban was born on May 18, 1945, to Jack and Aleen Phillips Wilson. He was preceded in death by his parents, his maternal grandparents, Earl and Antionette Everhardt Phillips, and his paternal grandparents, Claude and Dollie Wysinger Wilson, all of Junction City.
Urban is survived by his loving wife and constant companion of 49 years, Norma Gunter Wilson, four children, Treva Wilson Cates of Junction City, Terry Wayne Wilson (Judy), of Hot Springs, Amy Wilson Colvin (Jason) of Bernice, Kyle Wilson of West Monroe, and the lights of his life—his 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Wanda Gunter of Strong, Arkansas, and a sister-in-law, Glenda Gunter Nichols of Monticello, Arkansas, as well a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and treasured friends. He loved them all beyond measure.
A 1963 graduate of Junction City High School, there was nothing he liked better than visiting with old friends and reminiscing about his life growing up in a small town. Though he had no siblings, he had a number of cousins and dearest friends growing up that he considered his siblings, including cousins James Fullerton, Charles Fullerton, Paula Fullerton Ferguson, John Cook (deceased), Teresa Phillips Jacoby and dear childhood friends, Terry and Paul Enis and Willie Paul Campbell.
Urban spent over 50 years working in the fire sprinkler industry, and he also enjoyed the logging and sawmill business with his father, Jack, for several years. He had a lot of hobbies and interests over the years like hunting and fishing and collecting antiques, but he was especially fond of researching his and his wife’s genealogy over the last few years.
Urban is remembered by those who knew him for his easy-going nature, sense of humor, and his big smile. He never met a stranger and was liked by all that met him. He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at First United Methodist Church in Junction City. Funeral Services for Urban will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 17, 2020 at First United Methodist Church conducted by Dr. Todd Gunter and Brother David Bush followed by Interment at Roselawn Cemetery in Junction City under the direction of Perry's Funeral Chapels.
Pallbearers will be Allan Nichols, Benjamin Nichols, Michael Gunter, Max Westbrook, Donny Furlow, Dennis Beaver, Nicholas Cook, and Braden Cook. Music will be provided by Mrs. Carolyn Carter.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Roselawn Cemetery Fund or First United Methodist Church of Junction City.
