James Wilson Mack Ross was born 13 Jan 1845 in Waynesboro, Wayne Co., TN. He was the oldest son of William Benham Ross & Susannah Elizabeth Serene Mack.

He attended schools in Wayne Co., TN and after his discharge at the age of 25 he attended Kulps Chapel in Perry Co., TN in 1870.

He served as a Pvt. during the Civil War in Co. A, TN Calvary, which was later consolidated with another company, then known as Co. F. He enlisted August 10, 1862, and was paroled at the surrender under General Nathan Bedford Forrest at Gainesville, AL on May 10, 1865. He became a Democrat and joined the People's Party in 1892. He was a farmer and a Presbyterian. He also belonged to the Oddd Fellows and Masonic Lodge.

He was married to 1)Harriet Elizabeth Jones d/o William Jones & Nancy Helton near Waynesboro, Wayne Co., TN and had issue. 2)Martha Jane Rogers d/o William King Rogers & Elizabeth Jane Moffett 28 Oct 1855 and had issue.

He died 30 Mar 1920 in Branch, Franklin Co., AR and was buried Mar 1920 in the Hickory Ridge Cemetery in Lavaca, Sebastian Co., AR.
