Jimmy G. Bell of Van Buren, a longtime regional business leader, died at home Tuesday after a battle with cancer. He was 66.
Known for his acuity in commercial real estate and dedication to civic service, Bell’s transactions extended beyond the Crawford County line with national business connections and strong local ties.
Bell, who began real estate in 1972, founded Jimmy Bell Real Estate Company in 1976. He was the 1999 Iverson Riggs Citizen of the Year and served on numerous civic committees and boards including the Van Buren Chamber of Commerce, the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith Foundation, the Van Buren School District Education Foundation, and Summit Medical Center. He was also a past president board director of the Van Buren Boys & Girls Club.
After graduating Van Buren High School, Bell attended Westark Community College in Fort Smith and Arkansas Tech University in Russellville. He was a 1972 graduate of the Arkansas Realtors Institute.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Van Buren,with Dr. Bryan Smith officiating.
Burial will be at Gracelawn Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Kent Blochberger, Dr. Byrl Criswell, Paul Gant ,Tom Moore, Joe Sirmon, and Jim Williamson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Autry, Greg Bontrager, Bobby Brown, N.D. Edwards, Wally Hays, Rick Kibler, Jimmy Lansdell, Rich Looper, Mike O’Bryan, Earl Robinson, Mike Stanek, Bill Thomas, Alan Wear, and J R Young
He is survived by his wife, Sherri; son, J. Kevin Bell and wife Edie; son, Dr. Chris Bell and wife Christy; and grandchildren, Christopher, Blaine, Cortney, Jay, Bryan, and Kylie Bell, all of Van Buren. He was preceded in death by a son, Cody Bell; and a brother, Gary Bell.
Ocker-Putman Funeral Homes is directing funeral arrangements.

Cody Blaine Bell, 19 of Van Buren died Sunday, January 11, 1998 in an automobile accident on Arkansas Hwy 59.
He was killed around 6 a.m. near Evansville in Washington County when he lost control of his truck on wet pavement and struck a tree.
He was a member of the Van Buren First Baptist Church, a graduate of Van Buren High School and an engineering student at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.
He was survived by his fiancee, Joy McKnight of Van Buren; Jimmy G and Sherry L. Bell of Van Buren; two brothers, Kevin and Chris Bell both of Van Buren; his maternal grandparents, Gene and June Hobbs of Van Buren; his paternal grandmother, Mary Bell of Van Buren.
Funeral services were held at First Baptist Church with burial at Gracelawn Cemetery.
