Wanema Vaughan Beck, born May 17, 1923, in Sidon, Arkansas, departed this world on July 21, 2012 in Frisco, Texas after several long-suffering illnesses. For the last 10 years she lived in Texas near her daughters and grandchildren. For many years Wanema enjoyed spending holidays in Searcy visiting family and friends.
Among the many family and friends welcoming her sweet and beautiful spirit at Heaven's door are her beloved husband of almost 50 years, Oliver Sinclair Beck; her parents Bessie and Porter Vaughan; her son Sammy Beck, her daughter Barbara Beck, and her infant grandson Phillip.
Wanema enjoyed being a mother to her four children and was a devoted homemaker and wife. Her sympathetic ear, sense of humor, generosity and kindness made her a beloved friend and neighbor. She made friends easily and was always eager to share what she had with anyone in need.
As a young girl Wanema joined the First Baptist Church in Searcy after a revival meeting. Until her mid-thirties she lived in central Arkansas. While she missed living near her mother and three sisters, she enjoyed relocating to other cities in Arkansas, Mississippi, Missouri and Oklahoma as her husband worked on constructing highways, airbases, rice dryers, locks and dams. After his retirement they lived near their daughters in Nashville, Tennessee and then in Houston, Texas.
Among those left behind to miss and cherish the many sweet and funny memories she gave them include her beloved daughters, Shirley Beck Hutson and Betty Beck of Frisco, Tx., grandsons Jeffrey Hutson of Friendswood, Tx., Brian Hutson and daughter-in-law Angie Robinson Hutson of Frisco, Tx., great-grandchildren Brandon, Hailey, Ashton and Race Hutson, all of Texas, and three sisters, Gertrude Martindill of Searcy, Rita Sue Martin of N. Little Rock and Patricia Clay of Sherwood.
Burial was in Honey Hill Cemeter, Searcy, AR. Powell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangments.
