When William Reid Cofer was born on October 20, 1835, in Bedford, Virginia, his father, Josiah, was 27 and his mother, Mary, was 27. He married Agnes Watson Powell on November 14, 1866, in Nicholas, West Virginia. They had eight children in 21 years. He died on February 16, 1919, in Virginia having lived a long life of 83 years.
