ROGERS — John Merritt Baker of Rogers went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sept. 22, 2019. He was born on Nov. 10, 1937, in Larue to the late Clark and Neoma Baker.
John was a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he served as a boatswain's mate in the United States Navy. He retired from the Navy after 21 years of service, plus 10 years in the Reserves. After retirement from military life, he volunteered at the VA Hospital, and worked in maintenance at the Northwest Technical Institute, where he retired again after 15 years. He was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Rogers.
His survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Virginia Baker; children, Rhonda White (Donald) of Pea Ridge, Johnny Baker (Renee) of Missouri, Bobby Baker (ex-wife Kim) of Rogers, Leon Baker (Maria) of Avoca, Martin Baker (Jennifer) of Garfield; 16 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and a brother, JD Baker of Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five siblings; and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25, at Rollins Funeral Home in Rogers. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Thursday at Rollins Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Bland Cemetery.
