BENTONVILLE — Clyde Wayne McClain, 87, of Bentonville, Ark., died Monday, Nov. 8, 2010, at his residence in Bentonville. He was born April 13, 1923, in Plainview, Texas, to William Clyde McClain and Anna Ferguson McClain.

He served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II.

Wayne worked as an assistant engineer at various manufacturing companies, culminating with his retirement from Union Carbide in Rogers in 1991. He worked as manager of Blue Flame Gas Company for several years on the square of downtown Bentonville. He was a Mason, a member of the American Legion, the Association of Manufacturing Engineers and a longtime supporter of Bentonville Tigers and Razorback sports.

Wayne and Mavis moved the family from Plainview, Texas, to Bentonville in 1954. He has been a member of First Baptist Church since 1954, where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher for many years. Wayne's love of Jesus Christ was evidenced by his honesty and respect for others. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Anna McClain; sister, Edna Hampton of Lubbock, Texas; and the Rev. Harold McClain of Whitney, Texas.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mavis McClain, whom be married Nov. 8, 1942; four sons, Bill McClain and wife, Carolyn, of Garfield, Ark., David McClain and wife, Brenda, of Tahlequah, Okla., Doyle McClain of Charlottesville, Va., Steve McClain and wife, Sunny, of Bentonville, Ark.; two sisters, Ann Thomas of Lubbock, Texas, Neva Borchardt of Brownfield, Texas; one brother, Olen McClain of Bethany, Okla.; grandchildren, Kari McClain-Riggins and husband, Kevin, Clinton Wayne McClain and wife, Elizabeth, Laura Ann McClain, Jessica Lynn McClain, Michael Paul McClain and wife, Samantha, Carolyn Anne McClain, Scott Baker and wife, Stephanie, Jamie Ligi and husband, Lou; great-grandchildren, Dakota, Granger, Remington, Stockton and Gunnison Riggins, MacKenzie and Cooper Wayne McClain, Lou, Zachary and Devin Ligi, and Tyler Baker; family friend, Oleta Barnette; and a host of other friends.

A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2010, at First Baptist Church in the parlor located in the Administration Building, 220 S. Main St., Bentonville, Ark.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010, in the chapel at First Baptist Church in Bentonville with the Rev. Tom Smith officiating.

Burial will be in Benton County Memorial Park Cemetery in Rogers.
