Jay Scott Norris, prominent New York sculptor, son of the late Thomas Houston Norris and Mrs. Mary Horton Norris, was killed Saturday at 3:30 a.m. in New York City. Mr. Norris was born in El Dorado March 19, 1915. He was reared in El Dorado and educated in the local schools. He attended the Chicago Art Institute and was assistant curator of the Albany Museum of Art when he entered the Air Force in 1941. After service in Italy he returned to New Yor, and was associated with Mary Brosnan Studio until the time of his death. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Susan Eastman Norris, a daughter, Hope Houston Norris, and a son, Jay Scott Norris, Jr., all of New York City, and his mother. He leaves also four brothers, T. H. Norris, Jr. and F. M. Methvin of El Dorado, M. C. Methvin of Little Rock, Henry C. Norris, Monroe, La.; two sisters, Mrs. James Gallaway, Dallas, Tex. and Mrs. Leif Otterson of Billings, Wy. Graveside services will be held Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. in Woodlawn Cemetery by the Rev. Rayford McLean under the direction of Rumph Mortuary. (The El Dorado Times - November 12, 1964)
