CORNING - Anna Lavon (Hartsell-Eudy) Pierce of Corning died Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2016, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro.
Born March 27, 1942, in Tuckerman to the late Mr. and Mrs. Virgil and Olene (Harris) Hartsell, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, aunts, uncles, a nephew, one brother, three sisters and her daughter, Terry Eudy Rickets.
She is survived by her husband, James Robert "Jim" Pierce of the home. To the end he provided care and comfort from which she drew strength, knowing he was her honest, loyal best friend and handsome, strong, forever husband.
They were still in love with each other after happily blending their families into one that met life's challenges with courage and grace.
She is also survived by her dearest and only aunt, Anga May Henderson of Tuckerman, and her precious sister and husband who was loved as a brother, Loretta and Bobby Hardin of Neelyville, Mo.
She leaves her children, Robert and wife Colleen Eudy of Phoenix, Christopher "Zack" Eudy of Corning, Craig and wife Mary Pierce of Paragould, Justin Pierce of San Francisco, the daughter she cherished, Stephanie (Pierce) Pointer and husband Monroe Pointer of Jonesboro and Jenny (Pierce) Massey of Strafford, Mo.
Other survivors are her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, those who named her "Mamanana" to her delight: Tasia, Josh, Alyssa, Kobe and Kaleb Eudy of Salem, Ore.; those who spent so much time in her arms and on her lap: Marquise Pointer of Charleston, S.C., Kandace Pointer and Keagan Pointer of Jonesboro, Nikki (Pierce) and husband Anthony Hyde of Paragould, Amber (Eudy) Cruz, Mia and Rafael Cruz of Phoenix, Caleb McCollum Pierce and Jacob McCollum Pierce of Paragould, Sarah, Amelia and Arya Massey of Strafford.
Additionally, she leaves numerous nephews, nieces, extended family, her church family and friends.
Mrs. Pierce was a graduate of Tuckerman High School, where she was a member of the honor society. She attended college at Alabama Northeast and Arkansas State University. She embarked upon her career only after her children were in school, retiring 33 years later from corporate human resources. At the height of her career, she was honored to be chosen Professional Woman of the Year and to be a nominee for Arkansas Woman of Distinction.
Lavon accepted Christ as her savior, entering into baptism by Eugene Britnell in 1954 at Tuckerman Church of Christ.
When she moved to Corning, she placed membership with First Christian Church. Her activity on behalf of the church she loved so much increased over the years and declined only as dictated by illness.
Appointed secretary/treasurer of Corning First Christian Church, she resigned that position on Jan. 1, 2016, having served eight consecutive years. In December 2015, she was elected president of Christian Women's Fellowship for the third consecutive year.
She was certified by the American Cancer Society as a general facilitator for their Look Good Feel Better program and appreciated the volunteer time she spent at NEA's HopeCircle and at St. Bernards Imaging Center.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Christian Church, Fourth and Elm in Corning, officiated by Tim Burgess and Monroe Pointer. A family-only interment will be in Ward Cemetery at Strawberry the ancestral final resting place of Mrs. Pierce's forebears.

Terry Diane Eudy Stevens Ricketts, 52, died May 30, 2015, at Salem Hospital in Salem, Ore.
She was born Feb. 28, 1963, to Lavon (Hartsell) and Clinton Eudy in San Diego, CA.
Terry was preceded in death by her father, Clint Eudy; by her grandparents, William and Christine Eudy and Virgil and Olene Hartsell; and by four aunts, four uncles and a cousin.
Terry accepted Christ at an early age. Born into a military family, she was educated in Virginia, Arkansas, Alabama, New Jersey and California. An honor student, she studied language and dance from age 4. She was a skilled, but reluctant artist, a gifted gourmet cook and a passionate animal lover. She married Albert Lee Stevens III on Feb. 14, 1982. Following the end of that marriage, she worked 26 years in sales. She met her prince on Labor Day 2000. She and Brett were married May 23, 2002, making their home in Salem and sharing their mutual love of the culinary arts and music and raising their "furry, four-legged family."
She is survived by her husband, Brett Allen Ricketts of the home; her mother and stepfather, Anna Lavon and James Robert "Jim" Pierce of Corning; and her son, Joshua Lee Stevens; daughter, Tasia Nicole Stevens Cuesta; and grand-children, Alyssa, Kobe and Kaleb Clinton Cuesta, all of Salem. She is also survived by her older brother, Robert Clinton (Colleen) Eudy of Phoenix; and her younger bonus brother, Zack Eudy of Corning; stepbrothers, Craig (Mary) Pierce of Paragould and Justin Pierce of San Francisco; and stepsisters, Stephanie (Monroe) Pointer of Jonesboro and Jenny Massey of Springfield, Mo. Other survivors include her parents-in-law, Beverly and Allen Lynn "Duke" Ricketts of Silverton, Ore.; sister-in-law, Diana Gowen of Tualatin, Ore.; special great-aunt, Anga Henderson of Tuckerman; her aunts, Loretta (Bob) Hardin of Corning, Thelma (Boyce Ray) Guffey of Cash and Marva (Pat) McDermott of Keizer, Ore.; several nieces and cousins; and her best friend of 30 years, Sheila Griggsbury of Salem.
A memorial was held at Crown Memorial Center in Tualatin. A celebratory memorial service was held at First Christian Church in Corning, Arkansas. Cremation was chosed as the final disposition of the body.
