On Saturday, January 22, 1916, the death angel visited Springtown and claimed as his victim Amos J. Rich at the age of 82 years, 10 months and 11 days. Mr. Rich was born in Jennings County, Ind. March 11, 1833. He was married to Eliza A Howe in 1863. To this union was born nine children, of whom two and his companion preceded him through the valley of death. He professed a hope in Christ and for a number of years was a member of the Baptist church and lived in the Christian hope to the time of his death. Funeral services were conducted by the writer at the Baptist Church at Springtown after which the body was taken to the Gentry cemetery and buried by the side of his companion. J.L. Chastain.

Eliza A Howe was born in Jennings County, Indiana, May 20, 1843. In 1863 she was married to Amos J. Rich. To this union were born nine children, seven whom are still living. She died at her home in Springtown, Ark on Dec. 15, 1915. When about 13 years of age, she professed the hope in Christ and united with the Baptist church, continuing in that faith to the time of her death. She was well known here, having lived in the vicinity of Springtown for more than a quarter of a century; and the bereaved husband and children have the sympathy of the entire community. A short funeral service was conducted by the writer and Rev. Moody, paster of the Methodist church, at the Baptist church at Springtown, after which interment was made in the Gentry cemetery. J. L.
