Harvey Williams, 84 of Conway, died Dec. 11 at his home. He was saved at the age of 14 and had been in the ministry for over 67 years. After being ordained Aug. 21, 1949 at Center Point Baptist Church, he became the pastor of Social Grove Baptist Church while attending Jacksonville College in Jacksonville, Texas. He also attended Sam Houston State Teachers College and Arkansas State Teachers College, where he received his B.S.E. degree in Social Studies while living on the campus of Central Baptist College. Bro. Williams taught school for several years while also serving as a pastor.
He primarily pastored BMA churches in Arkansas, including: East Side at Lonoke, Temple at Stuttgart (a mission project) and Third at Little Rock. He became a full time missionary in 1956, serving at Wakefield (now Village Creek) in Little Rock, Northview in North Little Rock (which later merged with Third Baptist and became Oak Park Baptist Church), Grace in Bryant (which later merged with and became Park Place at Bryant) and Pratt Road in Little Rock. While at these mission projects, he honed his carpentry skills and put them to good use in helping with those building projects.
Other pastorates include First at Bald Knob, Grace at Bee Branch, Palmer Heights in Springfield, Mo.; and Caney Valley in Plumerville.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Jewel Hughes Williams; a son, Daniel H. (Cindy) Williams; two brothers; two sisters; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Dec.13 at Roller McNutt Funeral Home in Conway. Interment was at Oak Grove Cemetery.
