Andrew Cortez Jackson, 50, of 1007 Poplar St., Smackover died Wednesday in a local hospital after a long illness. Born Nov. 14, 1916 in Mt. Holly, he was the son of Louis and Mary Irvin Jackson. Mr. Jackson, a lifelong resident of this area, was an operator for Monsanto Co. He was a member of the First Methodist Church of Smackover. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Lena Belle Green Jackson; a son, James Robert Jackson of Smackover; two daughters, Mrs. Bill Gilchrist of Camden, Miss Cathrine Jackson of Smackover; his mother, Mrs. Mary Jackson Wilson of Stephens; a brother, A. E. Jackson of Junction City; four sisters, Mrs. J. T. Hay of El Dorado, Mrs. Paul Crumpler of Smackover, Mrs. Donald Huggings of Alvin, Tex., and Mrs. Joe B. Holmes of Louann; two grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the First Methodist Church in Smackover with the Rev. Oscar Haire, the Rev. John Burton and the Rev. Harold Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Silver Hills Cemetery under the direction of Rumph Mortuary. Pallbearers will be Carroll R. Crumpler, Louis Crumpler, Kenneth Jackson, Johnny Ray Hay, Ivan Smith, and Granson Ward. The body was taken to the family residence Thursday afternoon. (El Dorado Daily News - May 26, 1967)
