Frankie Dee Battles 91, of Guy, left this earth for her heavenly home on December 4, 2013. She was born on Friday, August 18, 1922 to the late Frank and Dessie (Reynolds) Battles. She was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church for sixty nine years.
In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband Derwayne Battles of sixty one years; a son Franklin Joe Battles; a grandson, Lloyd Wayne Bivens; sons-in-law, Ferron Bivens and Joe Lemon; three sisters, Dulsa Francis, Lois Mills, and Myrtle Hutchins; two brothers, J.W. and Benny Battles.
Those left to cherish her memory are three loving daughters, Nina Bivens of Quitman, Linda Stevenson (Clark) of Guy, and Mary Woodall(Ronnie) of Quitman; five grandchildren, Nancilla Bivens, Judy Ostrowski (Steve), Andy Bivens (Kristi), Amy Jackson (Brian) and Bobby Woodall; six great-grandchildren, Kandis Lawrence (Ben), Kaleb, Kendra, and Michael Bivens, and twins Evan and Emma Jackson; great-great grandson Elias Lawrence; two sisters, Bronnie Ingram and Willie Pearson; brother, Bobby Battles; a host of other family and friends.
Frankie was a cook at Guy-Perkins School for forty-three years, were she delighted in making sure no child left hungry, which was her reward. She was a strong Christian woman who was most proud of being a wife, a mother and grandmother or best known as “Ma Ma” Frankie. He children saw her live a life that was Christ centered. Her motto was taking it one day at a time and put your trust in the Lord”. Frankie raised her daughters with biblical principles and instilled in them a strong work ethic. She left a legacy of faith, hard work and perseverance that enriched the lives of her family. Until her health failed you could always find her in her beautiful flower gardens. She loved and saw the beauty of God’s creation in every flower petal and wanted to share with everyone that came by. Frankie loved life and enjoyed fellowship with family, friends and neighbors. Her face radiated peace, joy, and goodness. She lived out the description of the virtuous woman described in Proverbs 31. To her daughters and grandchildren she was a beautiful sprit and loving soul. She feared and loved the Lord and we know she was praised by our Lord and Savior as he welcomed her into his kingdom. While we grieve for our loss it is comforting to know she is at peace, healed, healthy and safe in the arms of our Lord, and we will be reunited with her in heaven one day.
A celebration of her home going will be from 3:00 to 5:00 pm, Sunday, December 8, 2013 at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home Chapel in Greenbrier.
