William Alton Griffin, 89 of Norphlet, passed away Thursday, November 14, 2013, at St. Vincent Infirmary in Little Rock. He was born July 19, 1924, to William Albert and Minnie Ola Moore Griffin in Hatfield, AR.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Norphlet, worked 22 years at Monsanto, and later retired from Northern Petro Chemical in Illinois, where he worked as a warehouse attendant. He served in the United States Army in the Pacific Theatre as a medic from 1943 until 1946 of WWII. William’s number one priority was his family

Preceding him in death are his parents; and his wife of 59 years, Margaret C. Griffin.

Survivors include his three children, Margaret Goss of Texarkana, AR, Bill and Ellen Griffin, and Nancy and Dennis Steele both of Norphlet; six grandchildren, Alan and Tina Goss, Daniel and Tina Goss both of Bossier City, LA, Shannon and Jennifer Griffin of El Dorado, Dana and Brandon Westbrook of Norphlet, Stefanie and Chris Magee of Frenchport, and Scott Steele of Morris IL; two sisters, Norma McNew of Commerce, TX, and Kathleen Gray of Hatfield, AR; nine great grandchildren; and 3 great, great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday, November 17, 2013, at Young’s.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 18, 2013, at the First United Methodist Church of Norphlet with Rev. Heather Clawitter and Dr. J.D. Weido officiating. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens with Military Honors under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.
