SPRINGDALE — Our beloved Oscar, "The Big O." of Springdale, Ark., went to Heaven on Feb. 1, 2012, from Earlene Howard Hospice House in Springdale. He was born March 17, 1921, in Hartwell, Ark., to Carey Thomas and Eva Bohannon Robbins.

Loving husband, father, brother, caring friend, he rarely grumbled or complained, and always had a friendly smile and helping hand for all. Until he settled down with his wife of over 50 years, he loved to travel. He enjoyed working and had jobs ranging from bossing the fruit orchards of Washington and California to working in the San Francisco Shipyards to Tyson in its infancy.

When he settled in Springdale, he drove bus number 35 for years, and loved when former riders would come up and greet him. He loved working for the City of Springdale Parks Department and hated to retire. That's where he got the nickname "Big O." He found a new hobby, along with Bo Calio, in small engine repair. Lawnmowers, tillers, weed eaters, rarely came home with him that they didn't get fixed and sold, and he loved selling them. Yard sales on Friday and Saturday were another passion. He always bought something, even if he didn't need it, telling Alice "someone needed the money." Oscar liked having yard sales too. But it seemed he never had enough time to get everything he wanted to sell ready, so he could be seen bringing out items right up to closing time. He was never disappointed, though, when he had to put them back in storage.

Oscar was preceded in death by two sisters, five brothers. He is survived by his bride of 50 years, Alice Ferriel Robbins; his son Shannon and wife Sam and grandchildren, Adam and Amanda, all of Greenland; one brother, Leon Robbins of Seattle, Wash.; one sister, Neva Hosheit of Wenatchee, Wash.; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews. great-great-nieces and -nephews; along with many friends and acquaintances because he never met a stranger.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home, with the Rev. Eddie Davis and Brother Stacey Villines officiating.

Visitation will be today, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Earlene Howard Circle of Life Hospice, 901 Jones Road, Springdale, Arkansas 72762. Online condolences may be sent to www.memfuneral.com.
