Hubert Jerrell Ramsey, 74, of Vilonia left many cherished family members and friends when he passed away on Friday, Dec. 17, 2010. He was born Thursday, Aug. 27, 1936 to John and Verna Mae (Haynie) Ramsey on the same land he was working and living on until he lost his fight with cancer.

“Paw” enjoyed traveling and camping throughout the United States; if he could share the beauty of nature with loved ones, cook and eat some great food, and listen to Willie Nelson or old-time gospel and bluegrass music, he thought life was all right.

Hubert possessed a tremendous work ethic during his many years in the trucking industry and after his “retirement.” This, along with a love of travel and adventure, is a legacy he passes on to his kids and grandkids. He had a great love of the land; it gave him great satisfaction to work on his land, care for his animals and trust in the natural world that God created.

He loved his church family at Belmont Chapel in Vilonia and appreciated all his fine neighbors through the years and especially through these last few months. He will be greatly missed by his beloved dog, Buttons.

Hubert is survived by his wife, Sandra (Adams) Ramsey; four daughters, Deana Davis of Cabot; Teresa Brand (Billy) of Vilonia, Melinda Haynes (Mark) of Bigelow, and Cindy Abbott (Kenny White) of Nimrod; three sons, Darrell Ramsey (Adona) of North Little Rock, Roger Ramsey of San Diego, Calif., and Keith Ramsey (Shauna) of Tri-Cities, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many “favorite” cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Elsie Moncrief and Ethel White.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway. Burial will follow at Cypress Valley Cemetery, Vilonia. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010.

The family would like to thank Baptist Health and Hospice for their wonderful care and support, as well as offer heartfelt thanks to our many friends and family members for their expressions of love and support throughout Mr. Ramsey’s illness.
