HUMPHREY - Thelma Henderson Black, 96, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009, at Baptist Health – Stuttgart.
Mrs. Black was born Dec. 6, 1912, in the Sunshine Community to A.J. "Alonzo" Henderson and Effie Bigham Henderson. She married Russell Black on June 12, 1932. She was a lifelong resident of the Humphrey community with exception of the time that her husband farmed at Lake Dick. She was retired school teacher and a member of the Humphrey Methodist Church.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Ralph, Woxie, Leslie "Toad", A.J. and Dale; and her son, James Elton Black.
Survivors are daughter, Carol Sue Griggs of Humphrey; son, Jerry (Alice) Black of Humphrey; daughter-in-law, Mary Helen Black, brother, Felton Henderson, and sister, Lucille Moritz, all of Stuttgart; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
She will be missed by everyone who knew and loved her.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Humphrey United Methodist Church with burial following in Lone Tree Cemetery by Turpin Funeral Home of Stuttgart.
