Caroline Elizabeth (Carrie) Stillwell was born April 14, 1857 to Caroline Maxwell and Asher Harold Stillwell. Caroline Elizabeth lost her mother October 20, 1857 when she was only six months old. She was then raised by her Maxwell Grandmother, Eleanor Pringle Maxwell, along with her Thetford Half-brother, David A. and two half-sisters, Josephine and Sarah E. Thetford. Her mother had been married to A. B. K. Thetford before she married Asher H. Stillwell. .
On October 5, 1876 Caroline was married to Phineas Black. He was born in Illinois on January 7, 1855. His parents moved to Iowa in 1864, where they engaged in farming and later in real estate. They moved to Arkansas in 1874. .
Phineas Black was said to be successful in his undertakings because of his determination and strong will power. He was elected sheriff of Arkansas County in 1888. He was also engaged in raising livestock. Carrie Stillwell and Phineas M. Black were the parents of two children. Caroline Black died on July 26, 1916 in Dewitt, Arkansas..
