Monday, March 7, 1977
Dr. Doris Ann Horton, 46, Lubbock, Tex., died March 4 in a Lubbock hospital. Born Jan. 2, 1931, at Lamar, she was the daughter of G. Van Horton and Susie Russell Horton and a member of First United Methodist Church in Springdale. She was professor of physical education, health and recreation at Texas Tech and was formerly associated with Sam Houston State College in Huntsville, Tex. She earned her BA degree at the University of Arkansas and received her masters and Ph.D. degrees at the University of Iowa. A former resident of Gentry, she had lived in Lubbock for 10 years.
Survivors include her parents of Springdale; two brothers, Van Horton Jr., Tulsa, Okla., and Charles E. Horton, Houston, Tex.; three sisters, Mrs. Maurine Reading, Siloam Springs, Mrs. Sylvia Sue Mitchell, Odessa, Tex., and Mrs. Carolyn Moore, Garland, Tex.; and her paternal grandmother, Mrs. M.L. Horton, Jacksonville.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the memorial chapel of Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs, with Dr. Alvin Murry of Little Rock officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery under the direction of Wasson.
