John Owen Harvell 84, of Melbourne died Sunday, February 7, 1993 at his home in Melbourne.
Born on September 12, 1908 in Gid, he was the son of the late Samuel Harvell and Samantha Moser Harvell. He was a retired school teacher and had been a minister for 56 years. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include: his wife, Sibyl Harvell; two daughters, Gaye Harvell Balentine of Melbourne and Wanda Harvell Byram of Mountain View; four sons, Wayne Harvell and Kenneth Harvell both of Melbourne, Roger Harvell of Greenville, S.C. and Grady Harvell of North Little Rock; one sister, Della Fullbright of Benton Harbor, Mich.; 27 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Doris Hutchins and Myrna Harvell, one sister, one great-grandson and two great-great-grandsons.
Services were held Wednesday February 10, 1993 at 2 p.m. at the Melbourne Community Church with Jim Hilderbrand, Tim Porter and Kevin Johnson officiating.
Pallbearers were Charles Brooks, Tommy Cone, Eudell Smith, John Teague, Chris Decker and Bennie Banning; Honorary pallbearers were Ira Harvell, Hershel Preston, Menard Harvell, Leonard Williams, Earnest Wood and Delmus Johnson.
Burial was in the Reeves Cemetery at Guion under the direction of the Howard Funeral Home in Melbourne.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Association.
