MELBOURNE -— Menard E. Harvell, 94, of Melbourne died Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at a Melbourne nursing home.
Born June 5, 1918, in Gid, he was the son of Louis Alexander and Charity Lillian (Matthews) Harvell. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II receiving the Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, and the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping, did woodworking and was a gunsmith. He also made turkey calls and enjoyed reading adventure and Western books. He was a retired cattle farmer and a Christian.
Survivors include his nieces, Gaye Qualls of Mount Pleasant and Gwenda Qualls Dobbs of Batesville; his nephews, Harold Craig, Robby Qualls and Shelby Qualls, all of Mount Pleasant, and Kenny Qualls of Chapin, S.C., and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Dale Harvell; a brother, Delbert Harvell; sisters, Jewell Harvell Qualls and Mamie Harvell Craig; and a niece, Carole Craig Brown.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Roller-Crouch Chapel in Melbourne with Bro. Wayne Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Reeves Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Melbourne.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Harvell, Tojo Massey, Tim Massey, Dennis Dobbs, Brent Qualls and Jason Qualls.
Honorary pallbearers are Vic Miesner, Jimmy Harris, Roger Harvell, Remmel Martin, Everett Thurnau, Keith Grimes, Franklin Rush, Johnny Dale and Nathan George.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight.
Memorials may be made to Reeves Cemetery Fund, 5062 W. Ark. 58 Hwy., Melbourne, AR 72556.
