Orpha Murphy
WALNUT RIDGE — Orpha Lela Murphy, 99, of Walnut Ridge passed away Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at Lawrence Hall Nursing Center in Walnut Ridge.
Orpha was born Sept. 27, 1913, at Hoxie. She was a lifetime resident of Lawrence County and a member of the Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew Jackson and Edith Chloe Ringle Adkisson, and her husband, Oscar Haywood Murphy, whom she married Oct. 1, 1933. Also preceding her in death were four brothers, James, Wallace and Willard Adkisson, and Alfred Pierce; and three sisters, Dorothy Farmer, Lillian Kisling and Charlsey Huff.
Survivors include her son, Glenn Murphy (Shirley) of Walnut Ridge; two grandchildren, Blair Ballard (Jerry) of Walnut Ridge and Crockett Murphy (Kristi) of Jonesboro; a great-grandson, Payton Murphy Poole of Walnut Ridge; three stepgreat-grandsons, Trey Ballard of Charlotte, N.C., Andrew Ballard (Cristin) of Fayetteville and Josh Ballard of Conway; and special niece, Chloe Jean Prater of Jonesboro.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at House Gregg Funeral Home of Walnut Ridge with Don House officiating.
Burial will follow in Markum Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service.
Active pallbearers will be Charles Ford Hooten, Odell Fort, Jerry Felts, Lynn Nicholson, Doug Arnold and J.T. Chronister.
Honorary pallbearers will be Don Douglas, Ben Perdue and Edward Tedder.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Markham Cemetery, P.O. Box 29, Bono, 72416.
