SHELTON, Walter - Walter Shelton, a former Rogers boy, was so badly injured Sunday afternoon at Cleveland, Okla. that he died next morning in a hospital in Oklahoma City. The body arrived in Rogers Tuesday night and the funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at the Baptist church at 3:00 o'clock, conducted by the pastor, Rev. C.C. Cunningham. Mr. Shelton was working for the Sinclair Oil Company at Cleveland and was foreman of the pipe line. Sunday afternoon he was doing some repair work on a Ford car which was standing on the slant of the road. While he was under the car it became freed in some manner and ran backward, the axle striking him at the base of the skull and crushing and dislocating his spinal column. He was rushed at once to the St. Anthony Hospital at Oklahoma City, which is but a short distance from Cleveland, where he died Monday morning about ten o'clock. Mr. Shelton is a son of Mr. and Mrs. F.D. Shelton of Rogers and his wife is a daughter of J.C. Raney, also of Rogers. The families were notified at once of the accident and the first telegram said that if they wished to see Walter alive to come at once. It was sent by Cleveland friends while he was enroute by car to Oklahoma City, but a later telegram brought word of his untimely death. Mrs. Shelton and daughter, Miss Ophelia, and J.C. Raney went to Oklahoma City by first train and brought the body home with them. The wife of the deceased was with the funeral party. The deceased came to Rogers with his parents from Lewisburg, Ky. some six years ago and at the time of his death was 27 years, three months and fifteen days old. He was married several years ago to Miss Jessie Raney, daughter of J.C. Raney and wife, and had been in Oklahoma for several years. Mr. Shelton was a very popular young fellow while in Rogers and stood high in the esteem of his friends and associates, who are deeply grieved to learn of his sudden and untimely death. He is survived by his father and mother and two sisters, Miss Anna Vaughn, who has been attending business college in Springfield, and Miss Ophelia, who clerks for Stroud Mercantile Co.
