BENTONVILLE — John R. Shelton, 78, of Bentonville died April 6, 2004. He was born Jan. 7, 1926, in Plainview to Carl and Norma Adcock Shelton. He attended Northwestern State College in Weatherford, Okla. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He worked for Donaldson's Department Stores in Minneapolis, Minn., for 17 years and was a finish carpenter in California. He was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, Helping Hands, Project Understanding and Food Shares. He was past president of the Bentonville Noon Lions Club and was the Lions past District Governor. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bentonville. He moved to Bentonville in 1995 from Ventura, Calif.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Darline Shelton of the home; one son, Paul Shelton of Redondo Beach, Calif.; one daughter, LaCene Wilkins of Dunlap, Tenn.; two brothers, Carl J. Shelton of Kingman, Ariz., Charles Shelton of Palmdale, Calif.; one sister, Norma Murdoch of Oklahoma City, Okla.; three grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dennis Spence and the Rev. Ben Hines officiating.
Burial will be in Bentonville Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Stockdale Funeral Services in Rogers.

Darline Doris Shelton passed away on August 26, 2020 at Sunridge Village Assisted Living & Memory Care in Bullhead City, AZ. She was 95.
Darline was born December 9, 1924 in Redwood, MN to Edward (Ed) and Ester Renberg. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Ruby Frank, LaVon Rykkeli and Rachel Anderson.
On December 28th 1951 Darline married John Shelton of Plainview, AR. Darline met John at the Starlight Ballroom in Kansas City, MO while Darline was working for Transworld Airlines as a teletype operator and John was serving in the United States Army.
John and Darline were dedicated members of the Lion’s Club International in both Ventura, CA and later in Bentonville, AR. After her husband’s death in 2004, Darline continued supporting the Lion’s Club mission by participating in eyeglass collection, fundraising activities, supporting schools for the blind and volunteering at Bentonville elementary schools performing vision screening to identify those at risk for vision loss.
Darline is lovingly remembered by her children LaCene Wilkins and Paul Shelton, grandsons John and William Wilkins and great granddaughters Charlotte, Emerson and Mila Wilkins.
