Earl F. Stege, age 89, of Warren, went home to be with his Lord at the Bradley County Medical Center on Friday, October 2. He was born September 24, 1920, in St. Louis, Missouri, a son of the late Ralph Arthur and Josephine Sommers Stege. He was a graduate of Normandy High School and attended Washington University in St. Louis. He married Camille Pierce April 27, 1946, in St. Louis. She survives him. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Stege and Ralph Stege, Jr.
Earl was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Coast Guard. He retired in 1976 as Director of Analysis and Reconciliation with the U.S. Dept. of the Army after a distinguished 35-year career in federal government service, most spent at Ft. Sam Houston, San Antonio, TX.
Earl was a Christian and a member of the First Baptist Church, Warren. He had also served churches in St. Louis, San Antonio, Falls Church, VA, Indianapolis, IN, and Lubbock, TX, in various capacities, including deacon (for 63 years), Sunday School leader, and part-time music and youth director.
He is also survived by a daughter, Sharon Stanley, and husband, Greg, of Warren; a son, Stephen, and wife, Rhonda, of Dallas, TX; five grandchildren, Sarah Stanley Henry (Patrick) of Little Rock; Christopher Stege (Kelly) of Austin, TX; David Stanley (Noelle) of Carrollton, TX; Ryan Stege (Brooke) of Frisco, TX; and Jonathan Stege of Austin, TX; two great-grandchildren, Max and Molly Henry of Little Rock; one sister, Helen Cook of Nashville, TN; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were 4:00 p.m. Monday October 5, First Baptist Church, Warren, AR. with Christopher Stege, Ryan Stege, Patrick Henry and Rev. Gregg Stanley officiating. Pianist was Rhonda Stege, special music was provided by Sarah Henry, David Stanley, Noelle Stanley and Jonathan Stege. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery by Frazer's Funeral Home. Active pallbearers were Christopher Stege, David Stanley, Ryan Stege, Jonathan Stege, Patrick Henry and John McClellan. Honorary pallbearer was Sarah Henry. Memorials preferred First Baptist Church Building Fund; P.O. Box 189; Warren, AR. 71671.
