GHOLSON, James Madison - James Madison Gholson was born November 29, 1869 and died April 2, 1921, being fifty-two years, seven months and twenty-seven days old. He was married twice. His first wife was Miss Sadie Keith, to whom he was married in 1900. To this union there were born a son, James Oral, who survives his father, and a daughter, Daisy Bell, who died in early infancy. His second wife was Miss Nellie S. Haynes, to whom he was married on June 1st, 1909 and who survives him. Besides his wife and son he is survived by his mother, 5 sisters: Mrs. Alice Gearheart, Mason Valley; Mrs. Dora Kane, Rogers; Mrs. Lee Givens of Amarillo, Tex.; Mrs. Dee Sprinkle, Miami, Okla.; Mrs. Ketchum, Elkhart, Kans. and also by 3 brothers, John and Will of Mason Valley and Burton of Corona, California. Mr. Gholson was converted at the age of fourteen and united with the Mason Valley Baptist church. He loved the church and for the advancement of its interests he was untiring in his labors in all its activities until the time of his death, at which time he was serving the church as one of its deacons. The deceased was a member of the Masonic fraternity and as such he sought to divide his time aright whereby he could give an equal portion to God and his fellow men, to his ordinary vocation and to necessary recreation. Funeral service was conducted by Rev. John Scroggins from the Mason Valley Baptist church and the remains of the deceased were laid to rest in the Coffelt cemetery, according to the ritual of the Masonic fraternity, in the presence of a large concourse of friends and loved ones, on Sunday, April 3rd, 1921.
