The Rev. Samuel Wingfield Mooty, 79, Norphlet, died late Wednesday night in an El Dorado hospital. Rev. Mooty served as pastor of the Norphlet Methodist church for 32 years prior to his retirement. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Maude Cook Mooty: five daughters, Mrs. Hazel Spicer, El Dorado, Mrs. Lillian Mathis, Cale, Mrs. Gertine Smith, Luling, La., Mrs. Elsie Mano, North Little Rock, and Mrs. Margurite Griffin, Norphlet; three step-sons, Felton Cook and Bill Cook, both of Little Rock, and Richard Cook, North Little Rock; two step-daughters, Mrs. Margaret Mellinger and Mrs. Juanita Bridges, both of El Dorado; three sisters, Mrs. Clair Powell, El Dorado, Mrs. Litha Knight, Bluff City, and Mrs. Jessie Miller, Prescott; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Methodist Church in Norphlet with the Rev. W. W. Barron, Dr. Ray Hozendorff, Rev. Tommy Mel;linger, and Rev. Robkins officiating. Interment will be in Holleman Cemetery near Chidester under the direction of proctor Funeral Home of Camden. Active pallbearers will be the Rev. Mooty's grandsons. (The El Dorado Times - May 9, 1969)
