Wallace R. Howard
BELLA VISTA — Capt. Wallace Reed Howard, U.S.N. retired, 83, of Bella Vista died Aug. 3, 2005, at Chino Valley, Ariz. He was born Dec. 21, 1921, in Paris to Sid and Mattie Poindexter Howard. He served 31 years in the Medical Service Corp and retired as a captain. He was awarded the Legion of Merit for leadership in providing unprecedented medical regulating support to the conflict in Southeast Asia. He was a member of Heritage Baptist Church in Bella Vista. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Kane Howard and one daughter, Rosemary Howard Burns.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Imogene Howard of the home; one son, John Howard of Chula Vista, Calif.; one daughter, Alison Howard Smith and husband Timothy of Chula Vista: one sister, Wanda Howard Shipley of Chino Valley, Ariz.; three stepsons, the Rev. Stan Manus of Omaha, Neb., David Manus of Rogers and Philip Manus of Algona, Iowa; one stepdaughter, Margaret Manus DePenning of Cincinnati; two grandsons, Matthew Smith of Chula Vista and Christopher Burns of New Castle, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; 10 stepgreat-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Heritage Baptist Church in Bella Vista with the Rev. Stan Manus and the Rev. Dale Schatz officiating. Burial will be in Dug Hill Cemetery in Bella Vista. Military honors will be conducted by Bella Vista VFW Post 9063.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Benton County Funeral Home in Rogers.
Memorials may be made to the Heritage Baptist Church in Bella Vista, Grace Baptist Church in Chino Valley or Temple Baptist Church in Omaha, Neb., c/o the funeral home, 306 N. 4th St., Rogers, 72756.
