Robert (Bob) James Strother, age 80 of Hutchinson Mountain, Arkansas passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at his home. Born on May 12, 1928 in Hutchinson Mountain, he was the son of Albert David Strother and Monnie Lockwood Harris Strother. He was retired from Ideal Bread Company in Batesville where he worked as a Maintenance Supervisor.
He enjoyed his horses and showing them at the county fair, cattle farming and whittling on any piece of wood. As his grandchildren grew, he began to teach them how to show their horses at the county fair as well. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Charleen Crowell Strother of Hutchinson Mountain; one daughter, Carolyn Sue Stinnett of Hutchinson Mountain; three sisters, Irene Stephens of Pleasant Plains, Flo Krug of Cabot and June Bailey of Batesville; four grandchildren, Cristy Bristow and her husband, Robert of Katy, TX, Candy Holt and her husband, Travis of Bradford, AR, Robert James (R.J.) Bristow and Thomas Wayne Bristow both of Katy, TX; one aunt, Edna Lawson of Hutchinson Mountain; several nieces and nephews and one very special friend, "Bug".
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Donald Strother and two sisters, Nella Mae Gay and Stella Roberts. Graveside services are Friday, January 9, 2:00 p.m., at the Palestine Cemetery in Hutchinson Mountain with Billy Fred Grady officiating. There will be no visitation. Pallbearers are Harold Dean Vaughn, Bobby Roberts, David Neeley, Colby Gregory, Jerry Reed and Tommie Stephens. Honorary pallbearers are all the kids that called him grandpa. Arrangements by Willis Funeral Service of Batesville.
