Christene Candler, age 77, of Batesville, Arkansas was promoted Sunday, Aug. 25, 2002. She was born August 20, 1925 in Pleasant Plains, AR, a daughter of John Henry and Rosie Brumley Smith. She was a pastor's wife, homemaker, a member of the Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church and was on the mission field at Bethel Missionary Baptist Mission in West Batesville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Eugene and Olen Smith and granddaughter Raenna Herren.
Those that rejoice in her promotion are her husband, Leo Candler; sisters; Irene Turner Cook and husband Jack of Southside, AR; Virginia McAllister and husband Jim of Seracy, AR; Wanda Maddox and husband Bob of Rock Island, IL; brothers; Henry and wife Verlee Smith of St. Petersburg, Fl., Marion and wife Bonnie Smith of Redding, CA.
Children; Clifford and wife Karen Candler of Choctaw, OK., James and wife Gale Candler of Rock Island, IL; Rose Mary Herren of Rowlett, TX; Carol and husband Robert Laramore of Jamestown, OH; Nancy and husband Ed Heflin of Clinton, OK; Michael and wife Cindy Candler of Maryland Heights, MO; and Victor Candler of Jamestown, AR.
Grandchildren; Doug and wife Mary Candler; Rachel and husband David Eagen; Meredith and husband Michael Bergman ; Jennifer and husband Bobby Bibb, Beth and husband Marc Britton; Matthew Candler; Alan Tippitt; Donna and husband Arthur Srebalus; Pam and husband Cecil Dennington; John Wicker; Julie and husband Craig Hamilton; Jayne Herren; Timothy Laramore; Tina Laramore; Kirsten and husband Ephraim Arendt; Sarah and husband Brian Naess; Ruth Laramore; Aaron and wife Becky Heflin; Jessica, Melisa, Thomas and Rebecca Heflin; Brittany, Katelyn and Jeremy Candler.
Services are Thursday, August 29, 1: p.m. at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Larry Albritton and Bro. Henry Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Palestine Cemetery on Hutchinson Mtn. under the direction of Willis-Hays Funeral Service of Batesville.
