Bernice Gwatney, 87, of Vilonia, passed from this life on Friday, June 21, 2013. Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, on March 12, 1926, she was a daughter to Thad Edgar and Bernie (Bender) Rowland. Bernice will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and friend; she retired from CHDC with over twenty years of service. She was a member of the Red Hats, the Vilonia Senior Citizens Center and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her children: Keith Gwatney and wife Audrey, Willie Gwatney and wife Delores, Ann Faith and husband Bud, Rebecca Jo Johnston, Tammie Henderson and husband Byron, all of Vilonia, Joyce Tebbe and husband John of Jacksonville and step-daughter, Sue Sanders and husband Jerry of Sherwood; 23 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter, and numerous extended family and friends. Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Otho Abe Gwatney; her parents; a daughter, Tommie Lynn Eggburn; four grandchildren; two sisters and six brothers
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Vilonia Senior Citizens' Center.
Services will be held at 10:00 am, on Monday, June 24, at Roller McNutt Funeral Home in Conway (501-327-7727). Interment will follow at Beryl Cemetery with her grandsons serving as pallbearers.
