Another Good Citizen Dead

Death has claimed another of this section’s best known and most highly respected citizens, Mr. J. W. Perryman, who died at his home near Wild Cherry at 12:30 o’clock last Monday morning, January 15th 1923 at the age of 69 years.

Mr. Perryman’s death came following a few days illness from paralysis. He suffered an attack of this ailment about two weeks ago, prior to which time he was thought to be in comparatively good health. The seriousness of his condition was realized and his children were summoned to his bedside all being present when he succumbed to the illness.

James W. Perryman, son of Stephen L. and Elizabeth M. Perryman was born at Murfreesboro, Rutherford County, Tennessee, July 20, 1853. He moved to Arkansas in 1861, locating in this county near Melbourne. He moved from Melbourne to Wild Cherry in 1873 and on Dec 24, 1876 was married to Rosa E. Reed to which union was born twelve children, two dying in infancy, ten surviving. Deceased spent the remainder of his life at Wild Cherry, being engaged at farming. A few years ago his health necessitated him giving up his farm work and he embarked in the mercantile business at Wild Cherry, giving the business his personal attention until his recent illness.

Deceased was converted and joined the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in 1876 at Tremble Campground. He was one of the ruling elders of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church for 42 years.

In the death of this well known citizen the section and community loses a man who has truly been a power in the moral uplift of his community, his actions and ideals being founded strictly upon the principles of Christianity. Mr. Perryman was of an unselfish character and had the love and respect of all who knew him. His kind and neighborly spirit, true Christian character and earnestness of purpose won him a lasting place in the hearts of his innumerable friends.
