BRITT, James J. - James J. Britt, a resident of this section for 65 years, died suddenly at the home of Mrs. Kate Duncan in Rogers, where he roomed, at 5:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon. He had been in very poor health for several years. Saturday at noon he suffered a nervous breakdown while down town. He recovered a short time afterwards and was taken to his room. He had another attack about 5:00 o'clock to which he succumbed. Mr. Britt was born in Texas on August 5, 1864 and came to Benton County with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.P.A. Britt, who located a few miles east of Bentonville, where he engaged in the nursery business a number of years which was later carried on by his sons, James and Hugh, but under separate names. Mr. Britt married Miss Lillie Stephens in 1896 who died three years later. Continued ill health caused him to dispose of his nursery business about four or five years ago. He is survived by one son, Eric Britt, who is living in California and by four brothers, Hugh, of the old homestead east of Bentonville; Geo. and Lee, Rogers and Archie Britt of Okmulgee, Oklahoma. Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock at Oakley Chapel, the Rev. R.S. Hayden and Rev. Howard officiating. Burial took place in Barron Cemetery.

Eric Britt arrived Tuesday from Los Vegas, Calif.{?) to attend the funeral of his father, J.J. Britt, which was held yesterday at Oakley Chapel. Eric covered the distance from Los Vegas to Bentonville, 1700 miles, in 51 hours, barring time taken to fix two punctures and four hours off to repair car trouble.

James J. Britt, 67, one of the pioneer residents of this section, died Saturday afternoon at 5 o'clock after an illness of about two hours. Mr. Britt was down town until afternoon when he was stricken. He was removed to his room on West Persimmon street where he died in a short time. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock following arrival of Mr. Britt's only son, Eric Britt, from California. Burial was in the Barron cemetery near Vaughn with J.W. Bryant in charge. The body was taken to the Hugh Britt home west of Rogers Tuesday morning. In addition to the son Mr. Britt is survived by five brothers, George, Hugh and Lee Britt of Rogers, Napoleon Britt of Chickasha, Okla. and Arch Britt of Okmulgee, Okla.
