RICKETTS, William Long - It is with regret that we must report the death of Uncle Billie Ricketts which occurred yesterday. He was one of the oldest settlers of Benton county and was at all times an example of honest manhood. Such lives spent in our midst are too likely to be overlooked on account of the "supposed" lowly condition of the man. Uncle Billie was one of nature's noblemen, respected and honored by all who knew him.

Died, December 10, 1913 at his home 4 miles north of Bentonville, William Long Ricketts, in the 78th year of his age. Deceased was born in Bedford county, Tenn. Feb. 26th, 1835. Came with his parents when a young man to Benton county, Ark. and settled on Pea Ridge August 26th, 1857 he was married to Miss Martha Ann Carroll. To this fortunate and happy union 11 children were born, of whom three sons, Newton F. of Raven, Col.; John W. of Chico, Col. and Manes M. of Bentonville, Ark. and three daughters, Mrs. May Hileman and Mrs. Maggie Bell Maxwell of Pea Ridge and Mrs. Albertie Chambers of Bentonville, survive him. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren aggregate seventy-nine. Upon his one valuable home which he and the family improved, cultivated and beautified, his contented, humble, honorable and useful christian life was spent, and from which his immortal spirit went out into the eternal beyond, and we feel assured into "that which is far better." For more than 50 years he was a worthy member of the M.E. Church, South. A few days before his death he told his family and friends he was ready to go and had no fears of death - only the suffering which might attend it. The funeral service, conducted by his pastor, Rev. Wheeler, assisted by Brothers Buttram, Rice, Pruett and the writer, was attended by an unusually large congregation of friends, neighbors and kindred. The remains were laid to rest by the side of loved ones gone before. May the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, comfort and support the bereft and sorrowing family and friends. (Written by request of the family and his pastor.) P. Carnahan.

RICKETTS, Martha Ann CARROLL - Died, Jan. 9th, 1911 at her home four miles north of Bentonville, Ark., Martha Ann Ricketts (nee Carroll), age seventy-one years, nine months and one day. Deceased was born in Indiana April 9th, 1838. Her parents were among the early settlers of Benton county and her life was mostly spent in this community. August 26th, 1857 she was married to W.L. Ricketts. To this union were born eleven children, forty-nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. She leaves her beloved husband, six children and a host of great grandchildren to mourn their loss. About fifty-six years ago she confessed Jesus Christ as her Lord and personal Savior and united with the church. At the time of her death she was not only an acceptable, but a useful and influential member of the M.E. Church, South. She was punctual in attendance, when able, upon the services of the sanctuary and active in christian work and effort. Her home was a christian home, especially welcome to ministers of the Gospel. Often has the writer, during these two score years of acquaintance, been hospitably and profitably entertained in this humble christian home. During the last years of her life she was sorely afflicted but bore her afflictions submissively and was never heard to express a doubt as to her future life and happiness. The funeral service, conducted by Bro. Gilmore, her beloved pastor, assisted by the writer, was attended by a great concourse of sympathizing friends and neighbors. The scene was pathetic indeed when the aged, bereft husband and great crowd of sorrowing children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren gathered around the remains for the last look and farewell. The remains were laid to rest in the Hickman Cemetery. May all these broken and sorrowing hearts find peace in the blessed Christ. P. Carnahan.
