Helen Louise Traub Jones, age 88, of Batesville, Arkansas died April 17, 2008 in Batesville after a long illness. Born January 21, 1920 in Henning, Minnesota, she was the daughter of John F. Traub and Clara Markuson Traub.
After completing her education at local schools and the University of Minnesota, she married Dr. Edward Jones on June 30, 1942 in East Grand Forks, Minnesota. During the war years she and Edward lived in Texas at several bases while he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Two of her three children were born there. Following the war, they lived in Topeka, Kansas, St. Louis, Missouri, Leavenworth, Kansas and Oak Park, Illinois, while Edward completed advanced medical studies.
In 1950 they moved to Beloit, Wisconsin where Edward opened a medical practice and her third child was born. They continued to reside in Beloit until 1973, when she and Edward relocated to Batesville, where they have lived ever since.
Helen was a dedicated homemaker who excelled at cooking and needlework while also demonstrating a highly intelligent and creative side with a particular interest in music, which she followed all her life. An accomplished pianist and organist, she also played a number of other instruments, including the string bass and saxophone. She was still playing in a Dixieland band into her 80's.
Helen had a special love for God's creatures, caring for many dogs and birds throughout her lifetime. A devoted member of West Baptist Church, Helen was a life-long Christian who participated in many church activities.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Dr. Edward Jones of Batesville; two sons, Terrence Jones and his wife, Sharon of Monroe, Louisiana and Dr. E.J. Jones of Batesville; one daughter, Clarese Ocker of Lake Oswego, Oregon; her grandchildren, Ann Jones of Batesville, Jason Ocker of Portland, Oregon, Derreck Ocker of Memphis, Tennessee, Griffith Jones of Ventura, California, Morgan Jones of Orlando, Florida and Dr. Ned Jones and his wife, Venetta of Orlando, and their two daughters, Anastasia and Zoe also from Orlando.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, John Traub.
Services are Saturday, April 26, 10:00 a.m., at West Baptist Church with Bro. Bob Dailey officiating. Burial will follow in the Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of Willis Funeral Service of Batesville.
Pallbearers are Jerry Young, Jimmy Watkins, Gary McKim, Glenn Edwards, Steve Riddiough and Keith Provence.
Honorary pallbearers are John Ed Smith, Merrill Blakely, William Coe, T.L. Coe, Randall Coe, Dr. William Henry, Alan Moore, Jim Clark, Dr. Seth Barnes and the 3rd floor nurses at the White River Medical Center. Visitation is Friday evening from 5-7 p.m. at the Willis Funeral Service Chapel, 3513 Harrison St. in Batesville.
