Winona Wyatt Jones, 81, of Batesville died on November 28, 2005 at her home.
She was born on July 17, 1924 in Desha and was the daughter of Samuel Wyatt and Clara (Kelley) Wyatt. She was a homemaker until she was 42 years of age and she then went to work as a receptionist for the Arkansas Highway Department retiring in 1986 after 20 years of service. She also loved antiques and knew great details about them and she owned Wyatt's Antiques in Desha. She was the caregiver for many family members and she was a member of the Central Avenue United Methodist Church. Winona was very independent and strong-willed and was very organized and detail oriented. She graduated high school at the age of 16 and was at the top of her class. Her nick-name in high school was "half-pint" and she played basketball. Winona was very dependable and did not want to be left out of any aspect of family life. She was always cutting out articles relating to her grandkids. She married Kenneth V. Jones in June of 1946 and was married for 55 years until his death in September 2001.
She is survived by her son, Kenneth L. Jones and his wife, Kristin Jones of Little Rock; two daughters: Theresa Jones Morris and her husband, Lon Morris of Batesville and Marla Jones Kelley and her husband Hershal Kelley also of Batesville. Her five grandchildren, Ryan Jones and Robyn Jones of Little Rock; Melanie Morris McAnally of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Sharla Thorne Huskey of Hot Springs; and Alecia Morris Sampley of Bossier City, Louisiana; and three great-grandsons: Jesse Sampley and Jacob Sampley of Bossier City, and Kaleb Huskey of Hot Springs also survive her. She is also survived by three brothers: Ancel Wayne Wyatt, Bobby L. Wyatt, and Jack R. Wyatt all of Batesville; and one sister, Dorothea Wyatt Sheffield also of Batesville. Pallbearers will be Michael Jones, Arch Jones, Bobby Smithee, Richard Painter, Mark Wyatt, and Bobby Gray. Honorary pallbearer will be George Caveness ,Rick Reed, R.L. Sheffield, James Coffman and Donald Hedden.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 1, 2005 in the Roller-Crouch Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Marcia Dodd officiating.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Memorial donations may be made to the Central Avenue United Methodist Church, 1205 N. Central Avenue, Batesville, AR 72501 or Alderbrook Cemetery, 210 Fred Street, Batesville, AR 72501 or any local associations, charities or organizations.
Interment will be at Alderbrook Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville. (870)793-4161.
