Annie Rae Gray

Annie Rae (Jennings) Gray, daughter of the late Homer E. Jennings and Cora Ethel (Drown) Jennings, was born Jan. 16, 1922, in Pleasant Valley, Ark. She departed this life on April 16, 2006, at her home in Morrilton, Ark., at the age of 84 years and three months.

After receiving a degree in Library Science, Annie worked as a librarian in Texas and Missouri. She helped establish the library system at Jefferson County College in Hillsboro, Mo., where she retired as head librarian after 27 years of employment. Annie was an avid traveler who enjoyed reading, gardening and sewing.

She was an active member of the Harding Street Church of Christ. She was an equally active member of the community, serving as a member of the Petit Jean Garden Club, The Friends of the Library, and the Red Hat Society. She was a former president of the Conway County Democratic Women and Rialto Theater. She was a member of the Literary Coterie.

Annie leaves to mourn her passing one brother and sister-in-law, Dalton and Wilma Jennings of North Little Rock; four nieces and nephews, Deborah Pallone, Jay Jennings, Janna Virden, and Danton Jennings; three great-nieces; four great-nephews; and a host of other relatives and many good friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Walton Jennings.

Funeral service will be today (Wednesday) at 1 p.m. at the Calico Rock Funeral Chapel with Charles Bane officiating. Burial will be at Wises Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Eddie’s Family Funeral Home in Calico Rock.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19.

Memorials may be made to the Conway County Library or the Harding Street Church of Christ in Morrilton.

Pallbearers will be Jay Jennings, Danton Jennings, Bryant Virden, Ronald Round, Edward Owens, Sonny Owens, and Elijah Virden.

A tea in her memory will be at 2 o’clock Sunday at the Harding Street Church of Christ. Everyone is welcome.
