Roy Delbert (Deb) Williams passed from this life Wednesday, August 11, 2010. Born in Casa, Arkansas, on June 20, 1921, Deb was a lifelong resident of Perry County.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nathan (Andy) Williams and Emma Faulkner Williams; brothers, Don and Wylie; sisters, Dorothy and Hazel; first wife and mother of his children, Mildred L. Cox Williams, second wife and loving mother to his children and grandchildren, Ernestine Thompson Williams, and most recently, very special friend and companion, Laverne "Scotty" Drum, grandson, Josh Park and great-great-grandson Thomas Barnett. He also was preceded in death by foster parents "Uncle" Sam and "Aunt" Mima Avery; foster brother, Lloyd Avery and foster sister, Cloma Avery Townsell.
Deb is survived by his children, Jimmy (Dianne) Williams, Patricia Hatfield of Perryville and Debbie (Tommy) Park, of Perryville and Heber Springs, Arkansas; seven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and many friends.
Dad was a self employed, entrepreneurial genius. He could weigh a cow, a bale of hay, or a horse to within ten pounds, and often times was closer than that. He was involved in all aspects of farming, was an order buyer for Arkansas Maid Meat Products as well as a sawmill timber and real estate broker. His longtime business partner and friend, Lloyd Pennington, once commented that Deb didn't want to own all the real estate in the world, just every parcel that joined his own. He was a quick wit and was noted for "holding court" at his "office", the Perryville Agri Coop!
Dad was a Justice of the Peace of the Perry County Quorum Court for 20 years and a member and former Sunday School teacher and Director at Perryville First Baptist Church. He also served on the board of the Perry County ASCS.
Dad was among those few individuals who, if planted in the middle of the Mojave Desert with a nickel and a snuff box, he'd emerge from there dragging an eleven foot pick sack full of hundred dollar bills.
Dad was a Christian and of the Baptist faith. His favorite verse of scripture was Romans 5:8, "But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."
Visitation will be Friday, August 13th at Perryville First Baptist Church from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral will be Saturday, August 14th at Perryville First Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at Smyers Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Perryville.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Smyers Cemetery, The Gideons' International or Perryville First Baptist Church Family Life Center.
