Woodrow O Williams, Sr

July 14, 1921 - February 3, 2009
Woodrow O. Williams, Sr. of North Little Rock passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2009. He was the son of Charles Abram Williams and Maude Huffstutlar of Perryville, AR. He was 87, born July 14, 1921 in Houston, AR. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Harold and sisters, Hazel, Clara, Oma, Ocel and Lollace.

He is greatly missed by his family, wife of 62 years Neoma, son, Oliver (Sharon) and daughter, Laura (Burgess) Burch and grandchildren, David, Brian and Danielle Burch, Ethan, Sean, Rose of Sharon and Maya Williams. Additionally he will be missed by many nieces, nephews, colleagues, friends and church members.

Dr. Williams, known as “Woody”, volunteered in April 1941 to serve in the Army Air Corp. The GI Bill afforded him the opportunity for education at the UA at Fayetteville culminating with a Doctorate of Education from Columbia University, NY.

He taught at ASU but left to fulfill a career as a counseling psychologist. He served with the Veterans Administration in Buffalo, NY and Ft. Roots, NLR, AR where he was the chief of counseling psychological services.

He was proud of starting a job training program called Hillcrest to ease veterans into the work force. His Hillcrest achievements were recognized and honored. Woody loved the outdoors; hunting, fishing and gardening were a passion. He also loved the “farm” in Vilonia. Woody and Neoma traveled the world visiting six continents. To his grandchildren when they were young, he gave the gift of play while teaching life lessons with love.

Since 1960, he was an active member of Lakewood United Methodist Church and the Bob Millet Sunday School Class. The funeral will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2009 at 1:00 PM at Lakewood UMC, 1922 Topf Rd., NLR, AR (753-6186). Visitation will be Friday, February 6, from 6 to 8 PM at Roller-Owens 5509 JFK, NLR, AR (791-7400). Memorials maybe made to the Lakewood UMC building fund.

Neoma Lyon Williams

October 5, 1920 - February 25, 2009
Neoma Lyon Williams, 88 of North Little Rock died February 25, 2009. She was born near Dardanelle, AR on October 5, 1920, the daughter of Lucie Jane Dowdy and Erwin Albert Lyon.

Neoma was preceded in death by her husband Woody, her parents and sisters Elvona, Elomae and Dortha and her brothers Everett and Elroy.

She is greatly missed by her sister Lila Fae Jackson, daughter Laura Burch (Burgess), son Oliver (Sharon) and seven grandchildren David, Brian and Danielle Burch, Ethan, Sean, Rose of Sharon and Maya Williams and many nieces and nephews. She was married to Woodrow O. Williams for 62 years. After raising a family, they traveled the world together.

She graduated from high school in Scott, AR and received her bachelor degree from the University of Arkansas. She was retired from a 25 year teaching career. She taught 2nd grade at Lakewood Elementary and reading at Argenta Elementary. She was an active member of ADK and PEO. She was a long member of Lakewood Methodist Church and the Bob Millet Sunday School class. Neoma enjoyed sewing, cooking and entertaining guests. She was a volunteer tutor and will be remembered for her kindness to many.

The family deeply appreciated the kindness and special care she received at Northridge Healthcare, B Wing.

A funeral will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2009, at 1:00 P. M. at Lakewood United Methodist Church, 1922 Topf Road, North Little Rock, AR (753-6186). Interment will be at 3:00 P. M. at New Hope Cemetery, Perryville, AR. Visitation will be Friday, February 27 from 6 to 8 PM at Roller-Owens 5509 JFK, North Little Rock, AR (791-7400). Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Arkansas, 10411 W. Markham, Suite 130, Little Rock, AR 72205-1409.
