She was a graduate of Baptist Nursing School in Little Rock. After moving to Fayetteville in 1954, she and her husband established Fitzhugh Communications in 1957. She later served for several years as the school nurse for Fayetteville Public Schools. She was an active member of Central United Methodist Church in Fayetteville.
