Vernon B. Fitzhugh, 89, of Fayetteville died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2007, at Washington Regional Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 23, 1917, in Malvern, the son of Joe Bayse and Effie Harriot Paul Fitzhugh.

He was founder of Fitzhugh Communications in 1957. He was on the board of Washington Regional Medical Center and was an active member of the Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Rotary Club and Central United Methodist Church and was an avid Razorback fan and a crappie fisherman. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving aboard the USS Roosevelt.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Clara M. Fitzhugh; two sons, Gene Fitzhugh, Mike Fitzhugh and wife Ann of Fort Smith; one brother, Percy Fitzhugh of Clovis, Calif.; three grandchildren, Jason Fitzhugh and wife Jennifer of Fayetteville, Ashley Ahlert and husband Brian of Fort Smith and Alex Fitzhugh of Fort Smith; two great-granddaughters.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27 at Central United Methodist Church Memorial Chapel with the Rev. J. Anthony Holifield officiating.

Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Moore's Chapel in Fayetteville, online at www.mooresfuneralchapel.com.

FAYETTEVILLE — Clara M. Fitzhugh, 89, of Fayetteville died Nov. 5, 2008, at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale. She was born May 7, 1919, in Ashdown to Albert Bruce and Minnie Myrtle Darby Caulder.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon B. Fitzhugh.

She was a graduate of Baptist Nursing School in Little Rock. After moving to Fayetteville in 1954, she and her husband established Fitzhugh Communications in 1957. She later served for several years as school nurse for the Fayetteville public schools. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Fayetteville.

Survivors include two sons, Gene Fitzhugh of Fayetteville, and Mike Fitzhugh and wife Ann of Fort Smith; three grandchildren, Jason Fitzhugh and wife Jennifer of Fayetteville, Ashley Ahlert and husband Brian of Fort Smith and Alex Fitzhugh of Fort Smith; three great-granddaughters, Mikenna, Ella and Kayli Fitzhugh; one great-grandson, Bennett Ahlert.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Central United Methodist Church Wesley Chapel. The Rev. J. Anthony Holifield will officiate.

Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m. today at Moore's Chapel in Fayetteville, online at www.mooresfuneralchapel.com.
