His obituary says: Handy DeShields was born in Coffer Co Middle TN Feb 28, 1819. Came to AR in 1835. Professed a hope in Christ in 1837 and united with the Primitive Baptist Church. He always lived a devoted Christian, and Was prompt to fill his seat on all occasions. He was married to Nancy Womic March 14, 1843 Departed this life Feb 9th, 1897 and in his death we feel that our loss is his eternal gain.
