STOKES, Elias S. - Elias S. Stokes, said to have been the oldest resident in Gravette, died on last Thursday, September 12, 1929 following a residence in that place for more than 35 years. He was nearly 88 years of age and had been in ill health for several years. He had lost most of his sight in the recent years. Burial was made in the Odd Fellows' Cemetery at Gravette on the following day. He was a native of eastern Tennessee. Surviving Mr. Stokes are his daughters, Mrs. Freeman Ballard and Miss Maud Stokes of Gravette; also one son, A.D. Stokes of Tulsa. Mr. Stokes and his wife celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary about a year ago. She has since passed away at a ripe old age.

STOKES, Mrs. Elias H. - Mrs. Elias H. Stokes, aged 84, died at her home Friday evening, June 29th, after a continued illness of several months. Mrs. Stokes, with her husband, had made their home here for almost 30 years, having moved here from Kansas at an early date. She is survived by her husband and three children, Mrs. Freeman Ballard and Miss Maude Stokes of Gravette and A.C. Stokes of Tulsa, Okla. and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. E.H. Osborn and burial was made in the I.O.O.F. cemetery immediately following the services.
