J.H. Keith, one of Benton county's best known citizens and apple growers, died at his country home south of Hiwasse early Tuesday morning at the age of sixty-five years. Mr. Keith has been in poor health for some time and for the past month he has been gradually sinking. Besides a wife he leaves four sons, Earl, Russell, Troy and Lloyd and three daughters, Misses Dona and Madge Keith and Mrs. Will Hedges. The sons are all prominent fruit growers and own fine orchards near the home place. The funeral services were conducted at the residence on Thursday afternoon at 3 p.m. in the presence of a large number of friends and relatives who gathered to pay their last respects to one whom they had known so long and loved so well. He was laid to rest in the family cemetery on a beautiful knoll just west of the house on the old farm which he loved. Mr. Keith was a native of Kentucky and came to Arkansas about twenty-five years ago to escape the feuds of his neighborhood which in those days were common occurrences. For his future home he selected a fertile tract south of Hiwasse and about ten miles west of Bentonville. Here he began setting out his first orchards and with the aid of his sons, who inherited their father's love for horticulture, increased his holdings until now the orchards of Keith Bros. are among the largest in the state and their name is familiar on many of the leading markets. In his later years Mr. Keith has been enjoying the fruits of his labor and his four sons have successfully managed their large holdings.
